New Year’s Wordles with Mrs. King
Can you think of words that represent what your New Year’s resolutions are? "How To" writing pieces using the app Explain Everything--Weston Elementary
Mrs. Baumann's and Ms Streveler's 2nd grade classes were working on "How to Writing". How To writing was introduced to students through co-teaching lessons and introducing the students to different pieces of the writing including text clues and explaining the steps. An example was shown on "How To" use the online catalog in the library which was followed up in the library by where to find the books. Students picked a topic of their choice and then needed to write down steps and draw pictures for each step. When students were set they took pictures of their drawings using the ipad and recorded their writing. We later sent those movies to a private You-Tube channel and converted them using quiet tube so we would only see the movie and not all the distractions and posted them to the teacher's websites.

Working with Similes and the StoryKit app--Weston Elementary
Mrs. Dassow's class was working on similes and was looking for a way to use the ipads. We found the StoryKit app and she did the rest. Students wrote their similes and drew a picture for each one. They took pictures on the ipad and imported them into StoryKit, recorded their voices and created their own books. I helped with sending them to the teacher and she linked them on her webpage for students to share with their families.

Using Online Resources for Research--PebbleGo--Weston Elementary
During the year second grade has done research on dinosaurs and biographies. For both projects we used the Online Database we subscribe to called PebbleGo. It is just right for first and second grade readers and is structured to find information easily. Lessons were done in the classroom and in the library on how to get to and get into PebbleGo from school or home. Each class did different things for their final project. Ms. Hoffmann's class typed their research out using their keyboarding skills and we created a book for them in a site called FlipSnack.
